Buddhist Monks Sacred Arts Tour

Monks from the Drepung Gomang Monastery in India will be stopping at the Spiritual Enrichment Center (942 S. Oates Street, Dothan, AL) on their annual US Sacred Arts tour. All proceeds from ticket sales, food and merchandise sales, and donations will go to the monks to support their monastery.
Following is a schedule of events that will be open to the public.

Monday, March 11 through Thursday, March 14, 10 a.m.–6 p.m. The monks will create a mandala made from millions of colored grains of sand. The public is welcome to stop by and view the construction in process and shop for items the monks have brought with them.

Monday, March 11, 1 p.m. – Opening Ceremony and beginning the sand mandala. From 10-1, the monks will be preparing and drawing the mandala. Donations accepted

Tuesday, March 12, 6 p.m. – Cultural Pageant. Experience ancient Tibetan cultural rituals including dances, sacred chants, prayers, and monastic debate. Tickets will be available Sunday, Mar. 3 and Mar. 10 at SEC Sunday services and are available on Eventbrite for $15, or you can pay at the door as space is available. Free admission for children under 12. This event sold out previously.

Wednesday, March 13, 12-2 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. Momo sale. The monks will cook momos, a traditional steamed dumpling filled with veggies or beef. Please call 334-794-2840 to place your order. You can pick up the dumplings between 12-2 or eat at the center between 4-6. (7) momos – $10
6–7 p.m. Meditation/chanting. Donations accepted.

Thursday, March 14, 6 p.m. – Closing Ceremony. There will be chanting and dissolution of the mandala. At the conclusion of the closing ceremony, the sand will be released into running water.

House Blessings – House blessings and prayers for the sick at home or in the hospital are also offered. In addition to a donation, hosts of such prayers provide 7-8 pieces of whole, fresh fruit and fresh flowers as an offering. $100 suggested donation
